Robert K. Bullock Journalism Scholarship Award Recipients Announced

We are proud to announce the award recipients of the Robert K. Bullock Journalism Scholarship. The Robert K. Bullock Journalism Scholarship has been established by former Monterey County Herald Sports Editor, Robert K. Bullock, to honor his passion for journalism and to inspire and empower students to pursue a degree in journalism, communications or mass media.

There are three levels of awards.

Scholarships are given to local high school seniors who are attending MPC in the fall 2013 and have an interest in pursuing a journalism, communications or mass media related field of study. These students are nominated by their counselors and career specialists. Each is awarded in the amount of $1,000.

Congratulations to the following high school recipients:

  • Cesar Lopez of Pacific Grove High School nominated by Kristin Paris, Counselor
  • Iridian Cortez of Seaside High School nominated by Angela Esver, Counselor
  • Holden Aatlo of Carmel High School nominated by Darren Johnston, Senior Counselor
  • Nicholas McCullough of Monterey High School nominated by Doreen Gray, College & Career Specialist

Scholarships are given to currently enrolled MPC students who are returning to MPC in the fall 2013 and have intent to pursue a journalism, communications or mass media related field of study. These students are nominated by their professors. Each is awarded in the amount of $2,000.

Congratulations to the following currently enrolled MPC student recipients:

  • Sara Craig nominated by Diane Boynton
  • Meredith Evans nominated by Jamie Dagdigian
  • Sophia Flores nominated by David Clemens
  • Nigel Ramnauth nominated by Georgia Jo Van Dam
  • Anton Reed nominated by Molly May
  • Annette Sanchez nominated by Irene Amster

Scholarships are given to currently enrolled MPC students who are transferring to a four-year institution in the fall 2013 and have intent to pursue a journalism, communications or mass media related field of study. Each is awarded in varying amounts.

Congratulations to the following MPC students transferring to a four-year institution:

  • Peter Mounteer in the amount of $10,000
  • Ilana Pickard in the amount of $6,000
  • Joseph Fernando Caballero in the amount of $2,000
  • David Michael Rudolph in the amount of $2,000
  • Maaham Aziz in the amount of $1,000

We are so grateful for our wonderful donor, Robert K. Bullock, who made this substantial award possible. It will truly benefit these incredible students in accomplishing their educational and professional goals.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all principals, counselors and faculty members who played a part in identifying the students for this award.

There will be an MPC Scholarship Awards Ceremony held on May 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in LF103 with a reception to follow in the Sam Karas Room in the Library & Technology Center. At the ceremony, recipients who fall into the 2nd and 3rd category will be acknowledged. All high school recipients will be acknowledged at their respective high school scholarship ceremonies.
