MPC Foundation Faculty and Staff Advancement Awards

Fall 2012 Grant Recipients

The Monterey Peninsula College Foundation is delighted to announce the Fall 2012 MPC Foundation Faculty and Staff Advancement Award winners which were approved October 1st. 

These awards are the result of the successful 2011 President’s Circle fundraising campaign. In addition to other areas of support given to the college, the MPC Foundation Board was able to allocate $40,000 to the 2012  Faculty and Staff Advancement Awards. The Fall 2012 awards are the second half of this allocation. Funds from the George J. (Bob) Faul Academic Excellence Award also support the awards this semester.

 There were 27 applicants representing 22 faculty and 5 staff requesting a total of $33,372. In total, 22 proposals were awarded for funding of $21,036. Eight proposals were fully funded and 14 were partially funded. Eighteen grants were awarded for professional development and four were in support of instructional materials. A list of the recipients follows.

Professional Development Awards

John Anderson: Partial funding to attend a meeting of the
Music Association of California Community Colleges in San Diego, CA.

Joseph Anderson, J.D.: Partial funding to
attend the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Traumas (IVAT) 10th
Annual Hawaii Conference.

Linda Bergen: Full funding to attend the Lindamood Bell
Interactive Workshop in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Kendra Cabrera: Partial funding to attend the Center for
Cross-Cultural Studies Group Site Visit to learn about Spanish study abroad
programs in Seville, Spain.

Barbara Cristi-Michael: Full funding to attend
the Modern Language Association Conference in Boston, MA.

Sharon deMaria-Osgood: Full funding to
acquire a U.S. Master’s Swim Level 1 and 2 Certification in Mountain View, CA.

Elizabeth Dilkes-Mullins: Partial funding to
attend the World History Association Annual Conference in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Laura Franklin: Partial funding to attend the Executive
Leadership Institute Conference on Continuing Education in Tucson, AZ.

Lauren Handley: Full funding to attend the Western Political
Science Association Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA.

Mary Johnson: Partial funding to attend the Professional
Development Conference held by the National Association for the Education of
Young Children in San Francisco, CA.

Elias Kary: Full funding to attend the 111th
American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA.

Vincent Lewis: Partial funding to attend the 2012 California
Perkins Conference in Sacramento, CA.

Gamble Madsen: Partial funding to attend the 48th
International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI.

Margaret McKeon Grych: Partial funding to
achieve a Permaculture Design Certificate through online distance education.

Susanne Muszala: Partial funding to attend the 2013 On Course
Conference in Los Angeles, CA.

Tuyen Nguyen: Partial funding to attend the California
Mathematics Council Community College’s Conference in Monterey, CA.

Daniel Phillips: Full funding to attend the 2013 American
Baseball Coaches Association Convention in Chicago, IL.

Kali Viker: Partial funding to attend the Asilomar
Leadership Skills Seminar in Asilomar, CA.

Instructional Equipment Awards

Kacey Giammanco: Partial funding to purchase textbooks for the
TRiO/SSS Lending Library.

Eduardo Gil de Montes: Full funding to create
a testing environment to develop an MPC branded app for Apple devices, which
provides campus resources and information for students.

Karoline Grasmuck: Partial funding for a DXTTRIII Plastic
Skull so dental assisting students can practice taking x-rays.

Anthony Villarreal: Full funding for IBM SPSS Statistics Standard
Authorized User Initial Fixed Term License and a year of support as part of an
overall effort to develop a Sociology Lab.
