Honor Grants Begin Changing Lives at Monterey Peninsula College
Recently, Beccie Michael, Gina Bianchi, and MPC Foundation Board Member Natalie Nielsen spent two days personally calling students who had applied for the Foundation’s new Honor Grant Program. On the other end of each call were future nurses, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals who had no idea they were about to receive life-changing news.
As they learned they had been selected as the inaugural recipients of an Honor Grant, the emotions were immediate and heartfelt. There were smiles, tears of joy, moments of disbelief, and overwhelming gratitude. These genuine reactions reminded everyone involved why this program was created in the first place.

Investing in Those Who Will Serve Our Community
The Honor Grant Program is a bold new initiative created by the MPC Foundation with support from the Posey Family Foundation to help students pursuing careers in professions that are essential to the health and safety of our community. Eligible Nursing, Fire Technology, and Emergency Medical Services students may receive up to $10,000 per academic year to help cover the many costs associated with completing their education, including tuition, books, housing, childcare, transportation, and other expenses that often stand between talented students and graduation.
Unscripted: When we asked students how they felt after receiving an Honor Grant, one word kept coming up:
What makes Honor Grants especially meaningful is their lasting impact. Rather than a traditional scholarship, recipients will begin making monthly contributions back to the program one year after graduation once they have entered the workforce. This model empowers today's students to become tomorrow's supporters and helps future generations pursue the very same career paths. It is a model built on generosity, gratitude, and paying opportunity forward.
From an Idea to a Program
The Honor Grant Program began as an idea when Mr. Posey shared the success story of the Posey Loan Program at Pasadena City College with the MPC Foundation's Executive Director. Just over a year later, the visionary new model, known now as Honor Grants, has become a reality.
Launching a completely new initiative in such a short time required the belief and partnership of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and many other generous individuals who recognized an opportunity to invest not only in students, but in the future of our entire community.
Today, because of that generosity, the first cohort of Honor Grant recipients is beginning their educational journey with confidence and hope.

Thank You to Our Donors
To every donor who believed in this vision from the beginning, thank you. Your investment reaches far beyond the classroom. It helps future nurses care for patients, future firefighters protect our neighborhoods, and future emergency medical professionals respond when our community needs them most.
Follow our progress and help fund the next Honor Grant.
